A Guide to Diesel Generator Cooling Systems

For many years, diesel generators have been the power generation solution of choice for commercial and industrial applications. Whether they are running to provide prime or standby power, these machines are known for their reliability, durability, and cost-effectiveness. One of the key components that allow these engines to function so well is their cooling system. Here’s some insight into how these systems work.
Air-Cooled Diesel Generators

Air-cooled systems are usually found in standby power and lower kW rated generators. These systems use fans to air drawn from the surrounding environment to cool the engine as it runs, blowing the air through the internal structure to draw heat away and prevent the system from overheating. These are very simple cooling systems, not requiring a radiator, coolant or pump system, which helps to keep maintenance to a minimum. The downside is that air-cooled diesel generators run fans that can add significantly to the noise factor.

Obviously, ventilation is exceptionally important for these diesel generators. Without enough air circulation, the engine can quickly overheat, causing the generator to shut down to prevent permanent damage. This makes it a challenge to reduce operating noise levels without affecting airflow. However, these generators are also fairly affordable to buy and run, which makes them a good choice for low power or standby power generation.

Liquid-Cooled Diesel Generators

Liquid cooling systems are common in larger-capacity diesel generators, including those used for prime power generation. They have an enclosed cooling system that utilizes a coolant that is pumped around the engine block through a system of hoses. The heat from the engine is transferred into the coolant, which is then circulated to a radiator where the heat is released and the liquid is cooled.

These more complex systems mean more maintenance throughout the year including frequent checks of hoses and connections for coolant leaks and the monitoring of coolant and also antifreeze levels in colder climates. Because of this closed pump system, these generators can be modified for significant noise reduction using custom-built enclosures without putting the generator itself or power generation at risk. Compared to air-cooled generators, liquid-cooled generators are more expensive – but they are also more durable and powerful, so are worth the additional investment if your power needs are significant.

A Guide to Different Types of Commercial and Industrial Fluid Chillers

Fluid chillers in Australia are used in a variety of different industries, including the food and beverage industry, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and chemical manufacturing sectors. Running on electrical power , this industrial equipment provides critical cooling and temperature control, and utilizing the right type of fluid chiller will optimize productivity, improve efficiency and lower operating costs.  Types of Industrial Fluid Chillers in Australia By Condenser Type   Air-cooled chillers: Air-cooled fluid chillers use the air in the environment around them assisted by fans to remove heat from the refrigerant in the condenser. It then runs the refrigerant back through the system to provide cooling. As a result, the air around these chillers is usually very warm and they are not recommended in applications where this will be an issue. These systems are often portable, available in both large and small-scale commercial versions, are relatively affordable a...

Why Cat Generators Are One Of The Best

We are big fans of Caterpillar generators.  They are better known as Cat generators .  Leaders in the generator industry, you can never go wrong with a Cat rental .  With so many kinds of generators, different models all running on different fuels, it's a big world.  Generators are excellent for energy storage .  We use them in times of crisis, as back-up options and for rural purposes.  There are many uses for a generator, it can be quite difficult when it comes to choosing the right one.  We recommend the Caterpillar generators for several reasons, as outlined below. Generators aren't toys We don't research a Cat rental for fun.  Cat generators are not toys and not for playing.  That said, some may say generators are like toys for the grown men.  Generators work to provide an energy storage bank so that when they're needed, energy is available.  Generators are an expensive item that, if looked after, can last for ...

Practical tips to cool down your warehouse

There are many different generators that can help your business to cool down your warehouses such as the electrical generator , diesel generator , and biogas generator . However, this choice may depend on your business structure and location. There are numerous steps warehouse owners can take to cool their building in summer, here are just a few: 1. Remove hot air during the day   Efficient ventilation of warehouses removes excessive heat as well as moisture, fumes, smoke, and dust build-up. Wind and hybrid ventilation products not only help protect goods and machinery but also assist in creating a better workplace for warehouse staff, increasing wellbeing and productivity. In addition, portable industrial fans are also beneficial in large warehouse spaces to keep air moving and cool areas that aren’t in reach of air conditioning units.  2. Turn off the heat source   An easy and practical step to keep the building cool is often forgotten – turning off any ma...
